Blumkin, Northridge Notch 2-0 Soccer Win

Freshmen Scott Hunter and Scott Piri scored goals and sophomore goalie Jeff Blumkin recorded his first collegiate shutout as Cal State Northridge beat Southern California College, 2-0, in a nonconference soccer match in Costa Mesa.
Hunter’s score 10 minutes into the game was a “world-class goal,” according to CSUN Coach Marwan Ass’ad. “It was something you’d love to see. He was 30 yards out and he hit a rocket in the upper corner.”
Piri scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining. And, although Blumkin is credited with the shutout, Ass’ad says the offense, led by freshman forward Roberto Reyes, deserves an assist.
“They learned about possession. You don’t have to get a goal every time you have the ball,” he said.
