DES MOINES — Nearly two-thirds of Iowans believe Republican vice presidential nominee Dan Quayle should remain on the ticket, even though half of them believe Quayle is a liability to Vice President George Bush, a Des Moines Register poll said Friday.
The poll of 812 Iowans showed 49% believe Quayle will hurt Bush’s chances to win in November, while only 38% said the Indiana senator is an asset to the GOP ticket. The remaining 13% said they were not sure what effect Quayle will have on Republican fortunes this fall.
