Angel Myers, disqualified from the U.S. Olympic swim team after testing positive for use of a steroid, will appeal her case Thursday to an arbitrator in a hearing at Denver, U.S. Swimming officials said.
Ray Essick, executive director of U.S. Swimming, the sport’s national governing body, said the hearing will give Myers a final chance to regain her Olympic berth. U.S. officials must submit a list of Seoul Games swimmers by Thursday.
“Our position in a situation like this is to encourage athletes to exhaust every possible appeal,†Essick said. “The real issue at hand is the reliability of the USOC drug testing. We’ve taken the USOC’s advice in not submitting her name for Olympic consideration.â€
