Taiwan Names New Representative to U.S.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The government of Taiwan named a former foreign minister as the island’s new unofficial representative to Washington, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.
Ding Mou-shih, 63, will go to Washington in September to head the Coordination Council for North American Affairs. The council has represented Taiwan’s interests in the United States since Washington broke official relations with Taipei in 1979.
