A black bishop who heads the Anglican Church in Namibia was hit by rubber bullets as territorial police clashed with student protesters, local journalists said. Bishop James Kauluma was bruised on the leg and back by the bullets, reporters said. The state-run radio said 11 people were arrested during the incident at a secondary school in Katutura, a black township adjacent to Windhoek, capital of the South African-ruled territory also known as South-West Africa. The protesters reportedly advocated a boycott of classes to press demands that military bases be moved away from schools. Namibia expects to be granted its independence soon by South Africa.
