Jeff Pierce shot out of a pack of four riders with 1 1/2 laps remaining and cruised to a 12-second victory in the 75-mile Presidio Circuit Race, the first stage of the Coors International bicycle race at San Francisco.
Pierce, 28, of San Diego, negotiated the 22-lap hilly course through the Army base in 3 hours 8 minutes 21 seconds.
