Synastry Ends Dry Spell at Del Mar
DEL MAR — Synastry, under Eddie Delahoussaye, took command on the far turn and drew clear to win the $42,000 feature race by 2 3/4 lengths Monday at Del Mar.
It was Synastry’s first win in seven starts this year.
Mi Preferido, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished second, 1 1/2 lengths in front of Good Command, with Russell Baze aboard, in a field of seven in the 6-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up.
Synastry covered the fast course in 1:08 2-5 and earned $23,100 for the victory. The time was the fastest at the distance this season at Del Mar.
Sent off the 2-1 second-choice by the crowd of 26,309, Synastry paid $6.60, $3.20 and $2.60. Mi Preferido returned $3 and $2.60, and Good Command paid $3.
The 5-year-old son of Seattle Slew, carrying 116 pounds, drew clear on the far turn and retained the lead through the stretch. The Kentucky-bred Synastry won only one of six races last year.
Delahoussaye, who logged his 4,000th win Sunday, also won Monday aboard Formidable Lady in the sixth race.
