A 7-year-old Pacific Beach girl was still missing Monday night after three days, but police said they are investigating the “remote†possibility that Charitie Careins went to Mexico with family friends on a vacation.
The friends had planned to leave on Saturday, the same day the child’s mother reported her missing. The mother, Jane Lewis, later recalled she had given Charitie permission to go on the trip, said police department spokesman Dave Cohen.
But Cohen said one person reported seeing the girl in Pacific Beach on Sunday, and he described the possibility of her being in Mexico as “remote.â€
The little girl called home Friday night to say she was staying the night with another family, but that family reported she left their home earlier in the day.
Police searched the area on Sunday, but that effort has been called off, Cohen said.
