Baker Out, Brady In at Treasury

WASHINGTON — President Reagan announced the resignation today of Treasury Secretary James Baker, who will lead the Bush presidential campaign, and appointed Nicholas Brady, a Wall Street banker and former New Jersey senator, as Baker’s replacement.
“I have accepted with great regret the resignation of James A. Baker III as secretary of the Treasury and I am announcing that I intend to nominate in his place Nicholas F. Brady,†Reagan said at a joint news conference with Brady and Baker standing at his side.
