HILLSIDE, Ill. — Excommunicated Bishop Richard Williamson, part of a controversial Roman Catholic sect, celebrated Mass at a hotel Sunday for followers of French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.
“Today the world, more than ever, calls us to resist the evils of the modern world,” Williamson told about 175 followers.
Williamson, who was consecrated by Lefebvre, belongs to the Society of St. Pius X, which refuses to accept key elements of the Second Vatican Council. The council revised church teachings in the early 1960s.
