Critiquing Movies and the Folks Who Write About Them : An Initial Concern
Bedard’s sexism is astonishing. Would he apply the same test to men? Should the works of Edward Estlin Cummings, Henry Louis Mencken, Jerome David Salinger or John Pierpoint Morgan be ignored because they were, to use Bedard’s logic, uncomfortable with their masculinity?
Then, of course, there’s Bedard’s sexist assumption that people who use initials in lieu of names are women. Berinstein identifies herself as a woman; Wolf does not. I happen to be a man who prefers to use initials.
