The State : Divers Seek Copter Debris

Divers from nearby Mare Island Naval Shipyard and the Alameda Naval Air Station were summoned to look for sunken debris from an MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter that crashed Monday in the ocean near San Francisco. At the same time, the Coast Guard stopped looking for eight missing crew members “after all possibilities of someone surviving the crash were exhausted.” Meanwhile, fishermen said sounds they heard at the time of the crash may have been the craft hitting the sea and not midair explosions, as they had assumed. The Navy declined to discuss the cause of the accident pending a full investigation.
