W. R. Grace & Co.’s net income rose 90% to $64.4 million in the second quarter, compared to $33.8 million in the year-ago period. The New York-based chemical maker said the increase was due to improved performances at its special chemicals company, its cocoa, speciality textile and distribution businesses and its energy operations. Profit was also bolstered by $6.3 million in income received in the sale of its Berman’s chain of stores and a $17.7-million pretax gain on the sale of its interest in Home Quarters Warehouse Inc.
