SDSU Library

That was a good article on San Diego State University (“SDSU, Under Day, Struggles for Respect,” June 26), and, yes, we’re blessed with a supportive administration, a distinguished faculty and--by and large--fine students. And, yes, it would be nice if the library’s book budget were better than it is. But actually, present holdings in that library aren’t bad at all, and the staff does all it can to make the most of a meager budget.
But the direction of that library is so abysmally ignorant of the way real human beings (not computers) work with real books (not computers) and so totally unresponsive to faculty that, until there’s change, library-using faculty and their students might as well be in the “teachers college” you rightly claim we’re not.
