Roy Williams, an assistant at North Carolina for 10 years, was named basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Williams replaces Larry Brown, who led the Jayhawks to the 1988 NCAA championship before being named coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Williams agreed to a 4-year contract at an annual salary of $78,000.
