Singer Co., the military and industrial products...
Singer Co., the military and industrial products firm taken over in January by stock speculator Paul A. Bilzerian, said it agreed to sell its motor products division to Ryobi Ltd. of Japan for about $325 million. The sale is part of Bilzerian’s plan of divestment for Singer, which includes putting all of its operations on the block. The motor products division, which employs 2,600 people, makes power tools for Sears, Roebuck & Co. and floor-care equipment for sale by Singer and Sears. The company said the motor products sale is expected to be completed by mid-August, subject to U.S. and Japanese regulatory approvals. Tokyo-based Ryobi is a diversified manufacturer, with its own lines of electric power tools and home gardening equipment.
