Fullerton Drops Golf for Track and Field

Cal State Fullerton will drop golf and reinstate men’s track and field as an intercollegiate sport for the 1988-89 school year, Athletic Director Ed Carroll said Thursday.
“With the upcoming sports complex only two years away, we felt it is very important to establish a men’s track program that will work in conjunction with our present women’s team and complement our cross-country program,” Carroll said.
Fullerton last competed in track and field in 1983.
Carroll named John Elders, a former Fullerton cross-country runner, as the coach for men’s and women’s track and field and both cross-country teams.
Fullerton has had a golf program for more than 10 years, but the program offered no scholarships.
