Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. will build a new world headquarters of up to 1.5-million square feet in lower Manhattan. The headquarters building will include a corporate day-care center for the children of company employees, the first of its kind on Wall Street . . . Irving Bank Corp. said responding to a Thursday deadline set by Bank of New York would be impossible but offered to meet with Bank of New York at any mutually convenient time to discuss the pending merger between the two . . . Delta Air Lines has exercised options for five more McDonnell Douglas MD-88s, bringing its total orders for the twin-jet to 53. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in November, l989.
