Want to invest in art but have a thin wallet? Check out the first Ugly Art Show and Auction, to be held next month in Detroit. Pastor David Eberhard (who also is a member of the Detroit City Council) said Monday he hopes the July 20 sale of the alleged “art” will raise $10,000 for a $2-million restoration project at the historic Trinity Lutheran Church. Among the items available: A gold-painted bas-relief of Poseidon from a Las Vegas casino; a picture of a Hawaiian sunset encased in authentic fake wood, and a painting of a “really ugly fish,” according to Ron Hoffman of the church’s Ugly Art Committee, which solicited the donations.
