There are no plans to keep Californians out of Yosemite National Park on certain days of the week, despite comments by National Park Service Director William Penn Mott to that effect, a park service spokesman said. Mott caused concern when he said in Florida last month: “We have to consider that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the park will not be available to people in California. When that will happen, I don’t know. It’s based on attendance. Californians are dominating the use of it, yet Yosemite is a national park. If I come out from Connecticut and it’s closed because so many Californians are there, it’s not fair.” Park Service spokesman George Berklacy stressed that Mott, a Californian, “was thinking out loud” when he made the comments.
