Havana Controversy

The story on “Havana” was a joy to read. While the effects of the revolution are manifold, it is apparent that the island’s natural beauty and vitality remain unchanged. And that’s good news to former residents and future travelers alike.
One correction, however, should be made. The Habana Riviera hotel did not open in 1959 as the authors claim. My family and I stayed at the hotel in 1957 while house-hunting in Havana, and we attended a special international TV broadcast of the Steve Allen Show from the hotel in 1958.
