Andy Sudduth, a 1985 Harvard graduate and former Olympian, won the U.S. Olympic single scull trials on Harsha Lake, near Cincinnati.
Sudduth, 25, representing the Boston Rowing Center, covered the 2,000 yards in 6 minutes 45.6 seconds.
Kathy Tippett and Monica Havalka of the Long Beach Rowing Club pulled a stunning upset to win the women’s double scull trials, edging favorites Barbra Kirch and Anne Marden. Marden has already won an Olympic berth for the women’s singles.
