Lindsay’s Little Tokyo Involvement Decried

I was extremely pleased to read Sam Hall Kaplan’s criticism (May 15) of Councilman Gilbert Lindsay’s unwelcomed involvement in the First Street North proposal in Little Tokyo.
I spend many hours downtown, and have become increasingly dismayed at the sequence of urban disasters Lindsay has endorsed, which have destroyed the fabric of my workplace. He has promoted the replacement of treasured landmark buildings with parking lots, and has supported projects that are incompatible with the size, scale and character of pedestrian-oriented streets.
The City Council would do a great service if they removed downtown (which has few voters) from Lindsay’s district and transferred it to a council member who is sensitive to the city’s long-term public interest.
