3 Arrested in $14,000 Theft From Girl
Three gang members were arrested for robbing a teen-age girl who had stolen her mother and father’s $14,000 before they could make a down payment on a new home, Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies said.
The three gang members, who allegedly grabbed the girl’s purse as she walked down the street June 4, bought new clothes and a 1964 Chevrolet with the money before they were arrested, Deputy Roger Hom said Friday. Only $5,960 of the $14,000 remained, he said.
Leroy Ford, 19, was arrested at an intersection in Carson, Hom said. A 16-year-old boy was arrested at his home in Carson and a 17-year-old boy was taken into custody on a street in Los Angeles. Deputies recovered the suspects’ new wardrobes, the car and a shotgun, Hom said.
The trio is suspected of snatching the girl’s purse as she walked along a street in the unincorporated area of Carson, Hom said.
“She had taken the money from her parents without their knowledge,†Hom said. “They were saving up money to try to buy a house.â€
The three were booked on suspicion of robbery. It was not known whether the girl was arrested for stealing the money from her parents.
