A brush fire west of Anaheim Hills, near the Riverside Freeway at Coal Canyon Road, consumed about 300 acres before it was brought under control Saturday night by more than 160 county, state and federal firefighters. The fire started near Green River Road, north of the Riverside Expressway and west of the Corona Expressway, consuming dense vegetation but not damaging any structures, said Kathleen Cha, public information officer for the Orange County Fire Department. In addition to county personnel, units from the California Department of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service aided in the battle, including setting a number of back fires. Five helicopters and a water-dropping, fixed-tank helicopter helped the firefighters, Cha said. Late afternoon winds fanned the blaze, but after sundown the 15- to 20-m.p.h. winds died down, allowing the firefighters to gain control of the fire near Aliso Canyon just before 9 p.m. There were no evacuations, Cha said.
