OMAHA — Larry Cochell, Cal State Fullerton coach, has been named national coach of the year by Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Cochell, 48, brought the Titans to the College World Series in his first season as Fullerton’s coach.
In guiding Fullerton to Omaha, Cochell became only the third person to coach two schools in the Series, joining Ron Polk (Georgia Southern and Mississippi State) and Ron Petroff (Northern Colorado and Rider).
Cochell, who guided Oral Roberts to the Series in 1978, is in his 22nd season as a head coach at a four-year school and has a career record of 730-407-2.
