**** “Martha Graham: An American Original in Performance.”
Kultur. $39.95.
The three half-hour, black-and-white films collected here form a magnificent testament to modern-dance expression. In “A Dancer’s World” (1957), Graham grandly discusses the priorities of her art while her company demonstrates--brilliantly. Filmed in 1961, “Night Journey” finds Graham dancing Jocasta in her audacious version of the ancient Greek classic, “Oedipus Rex.” Filmed in 1958, “Appalachian Spring” is a masterpiece of Americana, with Graham cast as the Bride: a young woman facing a hard, uncertain future. The ideal centerpiece of any dance-video library. Information: (800) 458-5887.
