Local News in Brief : Prison in Bomb Threat

A man described by his probation officer as fitting “the profile of a mass murderer” was sentenced to two years in state prison Tuesday for threatening to bomb the home of Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
William Sanford, 50, of Glendale, who was convicted last month of one count of threatening a public official, was sentenced by Pasadena Superior Court Judge George Xanthos.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis said Sanford threatened to bomb Antonovich’s Glendale home last Oct. 16 in a telephone conversation with the supervisor’s senior deputy. There was no evidence that Sanford possessed a bomb.
Lewis said Sanford was upset because the supervisor had not granted a request to provide him with free housing. Sanford’s home was destroyed in a 1983 arson fire that authorities suspected him of setting, although no arson charges were ever filed.
Sanford’s probation officer wrote that he “fits the profile of a mass murderer. If he decides his life is so terrible, that it is time for him to die, he just may get a gun and go on a killing spree.”
