U.S. Forest Service firefighters worked to control a blaze that scorched 2,500 acres on the edge of the Tonto National Forest in Arizona, while other crews headed northwest to Lake Mead in Nevada where 1,700 acres have burned, officials said. The Tonto National Forest blaze, which began at Bartlett Lake Saturday and spread to the Carefree area about 25 miles north of Phoenix, was contained at midnight Saturday, said Joyce Hassell, spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service. A total of about 40 firefighters and three engines were putting out hot spots at the site, she said. No injuries were reported.
