Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge and Ian Alsen of Granada Hills High will compete in the Pepsi Invitational at UCLA this afternoon.
Arreola, the NCAA Division II champion in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, will compete in the women’s mile against a field that includes 1984 Olympic 800 silver medalist Kim Gallagher and 1984 Olympian Ruth Wysocki.
Alsen will run in the men’s mile against Brazilian Joaquim Cruz and American record-holder Steve Scott. Cruz is the 1984 Olympic gold medalist in the 800.
Joe Devine of Saugus is an alternate in the mile. The Southern Section 4-A Division 1,600 champion was added to the field after he was disqualified for a false start in a qualifying heat at the CIF state track championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk on Friday.
