Wade Boggs, three-time American League batting champion, said he contacted the FBI last month in connection with a Costa Mesa woman who has since filed a $6 million palimony suit against him, the Boston Sunday Herald reported.
Margo Adams, 32, filed suit Friday in Orange County Superior Court, claiming the Boston Red Sox third baseman broke promises he would support her during a four-year relationship. She claims she sacrificed her job to travel with Boggs.
FBI agents visited Adams once three weeks ago and told her they were “investigating an extortion attempt on a Mr. Wade Boggs,†Adams told the newspaper.
Adams’ suit charges Boggs with fraud and breach of oral contract. She contends Boggs failed to compensate her for money she lost in income and commissions as a mortgage broker while she accompanied him on road trips over the last four years.
