I read with interest Diane Haithman’s article on the last episode of “St. Elsewhere” and wanted to point out some puns that she didn’t mention that occurred during that final episode (“On Television, There Is More Than One Way to Say Goodby,” May 26).
When there was a Code Blue announced on the PA system, the room number where the emergency supposedly was was “Room 222,” the name of the former television series.
And when Dr. Carol Novino was about to perform an autopsy and was dictating the patient’s number and name, etc., the patient’s number was No. 4077, his name was Henry Blake and was killed in a helicopter crash. Sound familiar? Col. Henry Blake of Mash Unit 4077 met his end that way in the television series “MASH.”
My Wednesday nights will forever be devoid of the pleasures of “St. Elsewhere.”
