Producer Lorne Michaels, who has won six Emmys for his work in television, will see the Emmy Awards from another point of view this year. He was named Thursday as executive producer of the 40th annual prime-time Emmy Awards, scheduled Aug. 28. The assignment is his first as executive producer of an Emmy program.
Michaels, the executive producer and creator of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” won three Emmys for his contributions as producer and writer for that program. He won his other Emmys as writer-producer of Lily Tomlin and Paul Simon specials.
The Emmy telecast will be seen on Fox Broadcasting stations, the second presentation in a 3-year pact with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
The Emmy ceremonies will be at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium instead of at the Shrine Auditorium, as originally announced.
