Boys’ Athletes of the Week : TRACK

Mark Senior of Mt. Miguel guided the Matadors to their first CIF San Diego Section track and field title Saturday at Balboa Stadium.
Senior won the 800-meter run in 1 minute 51.77 seconds, a personal best and fourth best in county history. He also anchored the winning 1,600 relay, which lifted Mt. Miguel past Morse, 45-44.
Francis O’Neill of San Pasqual ran 5,600 meters in three races at the section meet, winning one event (1,600) and finishing second in two (the 800 and 3,200). O’Neill’s times were 1:52.55 (11th fastest in section history), 4:18.23 and 9:23.55.
BASEBALL
Pitcher Rick Navarro allowed only five hits and an unearned run as Helix defeated defending section champion Mt. Carmel, 5-1, Saturday in a 3-A semifinal game at Grossmont College. Navarro (13-0) stopped the Sundevils’ eight-game winning streak.
