A 7-year-old Irvine boy was in critical condition Wednesday after he rode his tricycle into the path of a pickup truck, authorities said.
Police Lt. Albert Muir said David Burstein was on a tricycle when he rode from his driveway in the College Park area onto Blackthorn Street about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The boy, who suffered massive head and internal injuries, was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was listed in critical condition, Muir said.
The 63-year-old Irvine man who drove the pickup was traveling an estimated 15 to 20 miles per hour at the time of the accident and was not cited or held, Muir said.
“Speed is not an issue here,” Muir said.
An investigation into the accident was continuing.
