Saputo Upsets Perely to Win Hardcourt Title

Len Saputo of Walnut Creek, Calif. won the singles title of the Men’s 45 National Hard Court championships Sunday as he defeated No. 1-seeded Jim Perely of Coronado, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, Sunday at the Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.

Saputo, who won $500, was seeded third.

Bob Duesler and Jim Nelson of Newport Beach won the doubles title by default over Lenny Lindborg of Laguna Beach and Hank Leichdfried of Huntington Beach. Leichdfried pulled a stomach muscle and had to retire.
