Six people, including the three-person cockpit crew, were injured when an American Airlines DC-10 carrying 254 people ran off the runway at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport and slid to a stop on its nose when its front landing gear collapsed. None of the injuries was serious. An airline spokesman said a cockpit warning light flashed and the pilot radioed the tower that he was aborting his takeoff. “But he was rolling at such a speed,” the spokesman said, “that by the time the plane slowed, it had run off the runway and into a grassy area, which had been softened by a rain.” The flight had been headed for Frankfurt, West Germany.
