El Salvador Expels Soviet Journalist
SAN SALVADOR — Yuri Stroyev, a Nicaragua-based correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda, the official newspaper of the Young Communist League of the Soviet Union, was deported from El Salvador on grounds that he did not have Salvadoran press credentials, Immigration Department officials said Thursday.
Stroyev was escorted from his hotel in San Salvador on Wednesday evening and put on a plane for Guatemala, the officials said. Stroyev had told journalists earlier that he was the first Soviet reporter allowed into El Salvador in 10 years. The two countries have no diplomatic relations.
