Local News in Brief : Man With Toy Gun Shot
A man who brandished a toy gun in front of a crew filming a late-night television commercial on downtown Los Angeles streets was shot and wounded early Thursday when he allegedly pointed the weapon at a police officer.
Ediberto Gomez, 29, of Los Angeles was in serious condition at County-USC Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, Lt. William Hall said.
He was shot after pointing a toy .22-caliber gun at a police officer in an alley off 5th Street about 2 a.m., Hall said. The officer, Frank King, 34, had been hired as a security guard and traffic patrolman by the Bill Hudson Production Co., which was filming a commercial for a men’s cologne, using several downtown streets for a backdrop.
Gomez was booked into the medical center’s jail ward on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
