Whose Idea Was It to Leave Off Gaines?

I know that all of the best players cannot be invited to the Olympic basketball trials, but not inviting Corey Gaines of Loyola Marymount is a travesty.

Coach John Thompson said he wants his Olympic team to push the ball up the floor, and yet Corey Gaines, 6 feet 4 inches and the quickest point guard in the country, with an excellent shooting range, a top assist man and experience in international play, was not invited.
