PASSINGS : Leona Wood; Granddaughter of Kit Carson
Leona Wood, 92, granddaughter of Kit Carson, the fabled frontiersman and scout of the Wild West. Over the years she represented her family at numerous celebrations and dedications honoring her famous grandfather. In 1911, she dedicated the memorial statue of Carson pointing the way west that stands at Colfax Avenue and Broadway in Denver. In 1963, Wood was in Taos, N.M., for the dedication of his home as a national monument. In Denver on April 19.
