$1.1 Billion Lost in Welfare Payment Errors in 1986

WASHINGTON — The federal and state governments lost $1.1 billion in fiscal 1986 through welfare payment errors in the Aid to Families With Dependent Children program, the Health and Human Services Department said Friday.
Wayne A. Stanton, administrator of the Family Support Administration, which runs the AFDC program, said the average state 1986 error rate was 7.15%.
