Two House Blazes Kill Man, Woman

A Poway woman and a Bay Park man died early Sunday as the result of separate fires, fire officials said.
Dorothy Hunter, 57, died in a fire at 13220 Neddick Ave., Poway, shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, officials said. The blaze was caused by candles that had been left burning in the living room. Three other people in the house escaped without major injury.
In the other fatal fire, 74-year-old Melvin Nelson died in Mission Bay Hospital early Sunday of injuries suffered when his home at 5093 Northaven Ave. caught fire late Saturday night. The fire was started by a cigarette, firefighters said.
