Selecting the Presidential Candidates

It is interesting to read that Ronald Reagan has begun to realize that racism has intruded on the national election process, inhibiting presidential candidates from criticizing Jackson for fear of being called “racists” (“Reagan Says Race Inhibits Valid Criticism of Jackson,” Part I, April 14).
Now for a giant step forward, Mr. President. Has it also occurred to you that, more than denying his opponents the freedom to criticize candidate Jackson, “racism” is denying Jackson an equal opportunity to be elected President?
That seems to be a more serious indictment.
