Reviews of AFI Festival Movies : TODAY
Following are reviews for the American Film Institute Film Festival. All screenings are at the Cineplex Odeon Century Plaza Cinemas .
‘A Killing Affair’
U.S.A., 1988, 100 minutes, 10 p.m . A familiar thriller variant--the murderer makes an emotional connection with the wife of his victim. Set in Appalachia in 1943, the story provides the killer with lots of justification for his act; a clear tip-off for a surprise ending. Writer-director David Sapperstein has an assured sense of construction but completely undercuts it by failing to build tension and characterization into the recipe for suspense.
