‘The Photograph’
Greece-France, 1987, 102 minutes
3 p.m . Writer-director Nico Papatakis’ indictment of the Greek junta. Set in the early ‘70s, it tells of a young man, hounded by his dead father’s communist past, who takes refuge with a cousin in Paris and proceeds to exploit him cruelly. In drawing out the deception of a photograph of a woman the exile claims is his sister, Papatakis spoils a splendid, provocative parable on corrupting power and enters into self-destructive morbidity.
