Los Angeles will be one of the communities nationwide to share $4.5 million in matching grant money being made available by the Ford Foundation to combat AIDS, foundation officials said.
Under the program, a coalition of AIDS organizations will set priorities for how the grant money will be used to stimulate a coordinated community response to the AIDS crisis. This is the first major AIDS grant to be offered by Ford, spokeswoman Andrea Taylor said.
Details of the program will be unveiled next week at a national meeting of the Council on Foundations to be held in Los Angeles. The council, which represents about 1,000 of the nation’s leading philanthropic foundations, has established a task force to encourage grant makers to become more active supporters of AIDS issues.
