Time Inc.’s first-quarter earnings rose 43% to $66 million, compared to $46 million for the comparable period last year. Revenue for the New York-based publishing company jumped to $1.07 billion from $939 million a year ago. The firm attributed the gains to improved performances by all of its operating segments. Continued savings from cost-control efforts and the absence of losses from Discover magazine, which was sold last year, were somewhat offset by higher paper costs, Time said.
