NEW YORK — Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis opened his Wednesday morning news conference with an expression of concern for eight reporters in his traveling contingent who were aboard a plane that made a tense but safe landing Tuesday night.
The pilots of the chartered Falcon 20 jet, which was following Dukakis’ plane from a side trip to Philadelphia, received a warning indicating a malfunction with the landing gear.
The reporters’ jet landed at LaGuardia Airport on a runway lined with fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.
“In addition to my respect for you as professionals I want you all to be safe and secure,” Dukakis said.
