‘The Oberwald Mystery’
5:30 p.m. Repeat screening. A review appeared in The Times on Wednesday.
‘The Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman’
U.S.A., 1974, 108 minutes, 7:30 p.m. Warner Building, AFI,
2021 N. Western Ave., Hollywood . Engrossing saga of the American black experience from the Civil War through to the civil rights era as seen through the eyes of the title character--a fictional creation. Cicely Tyson won a richly deserved Emmy for her performance, as did writer Tracy Keenan Wynn and director John Korty. The facility to depict an epic subject in intimate terms accounts for the film’s astonishing emotional impact.
RECOMMENDED.
